Iran warns of 'serious' drop in cooperation with IAEA
(29/11/2009)
Iranian parliament speaker Ali Larijani warned on Sunday that Tehran could "seriously decrease" its cooperation with the UN atomic watchdog after it issued a resolution condemning the Islamic republic for building a second uranium enrichment plant.
Addressing a session of the conservative-dominated parliament, Larijani said Washington and other members of the P5-plus-1 group must change their approach towards Iran.
"Iranian parliament warns the US and other members of the five-plus-one group that do not think such kind of outdated games will give you a chance for haggling," said Larijani who was previously Iran's chief nuclear negotiator.
"Do not make (Iranian) parliament and Iranian nation choose another path and seriously decrease the cooperation with the IAEA."
On the other hand, Iran's parliament urged President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's government Sunday to submit a plan on reducing its cooperation level with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
State television said 226 lawmakers in the 290-member parliament signed a letter demanding the government draw up "a quick plan to reduce the elvel of cooperation with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and submit it" to the house.
The move came two days after the U.N. nuclear watchdog voted to rebuke Iran for building a uranium enrichment plant in secret.
